Thai Wellness
Experience traditional Thai massage and bodywork through the lens of Traditional Thai Medicine: a complex, holistic medical system that views the body as a whole, using elemental theory and the layers of Thai anatomy. At Maine Healing Arts, Thai bodywork tends to be physically intensive, sometimes deep in pressure, in a way that can be great for breaking barriers and making space in the tissue, allowing the body's natural healing process to take place.
The massage pressure can be very deep or gentle; each session will be adjusted according to what is most appropriate for your body and needs. You do not need to be flexible to receive Thai bodywork; this practice is a great way to help you explore your mobility and flexibility.
Sessions are practiced on a very low platform, allowing for greater access to different parts of the body without the confines of a small table. Wearing clothing during a session is important for multiple reasons. It allows access to all areas of the body and for stretching without the need for constant draping. It also protects the skin layer of the body and is sometimes helpful for accessing muscle tissue. It is best to dress in layers as the body temperature may sometimes lower when receiving treatment. Loose-fitting, comfortable cotton clothing is best. No shorts or skirts.

cranial sacral therapy
Using a gentle touch primarily on the head and face, the manual techniques used in CST allow the body to initiate self-healing from the inside out, facilitating self-correction in a safe, calming environment.
Treatment works with the body's cranial-sacral system, releasing restrictions, which have been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, and circulatory. By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster disease resistance and is beneficial for people seeking help with a wide range of healthcare challenges and symptoms.
Cranial Sacral Therapy is a western-lineage practice and shares no relation to traditional Thai bodywork. However, it is an excellent therapy and can be incorporated during any session.
abdominal massage
A typical session may include warm compresses with gentle soft tissue + deep tissue massage directly on the abdomen. Be sure to wear clothing that can get dirty, as many oils and herbs are typically used.
Abdominal massage is excellent for addressing low back pain, depletion in energy, and digestive issues. It can also help address pain due to menstruation (though not appropriate during menstruation). After treatment, some people experience a release of emotional energy, improvement in digestion, and an overall sense of calm and stability in the body.
Abdominal massage can be incorporated during any session, but requests must be made in advance to prepare certain tools necessary for treatment.
